My mum received a call from 01904922505 pretending to be from her mobile phone provider. They offered her a new phone and she said yes. They somehow managed to get access to her phone provider account and order a new iPhone. It was sent to her house. On the day it arrived, she was called and told not to open it. This made her suspicious. Then, the postman arrived and told her he was to pick up a package.
She explained to the postman who, thankfully knows her and was aware of another person in the area in the same situation. He didn’t take the phone.
My mum contacted her provider who told her that it was indeed a scam and cancelled the order.
Please, be careful folks. Thankfully, my mum had been well warned. It took her a moment but she realised just in time that something was wrong.
From what i gather, when successful, the victim is told they’ve been sent the wrong phone and they have to return it. They ‘return’ it to an address provided by the scammer so they no longer have the phone but it’s still on their account so they’re stuck paying for it.
Be vigilant. If you get such a call, hang up. Contact your phone provider and bank to make sure nothing has been done. Change passwords for email accounts etc. in case they’ve accessed anything like that. Never give out information to strangers who call you. If you want to order something, only do so when you’ve initiated contact and question everything.
